Mustard Pimp's New Album: No Title or Purpose. OUT NOW!

Mustard Pimp's new album 'No Title or Purpose' was released yesterday, October 25th, on all major online music stores, through infamous Dim Mak Records. I recommend you take your time to listen to the tracks below and then click here to purchase. The link is for the Deluxe version, which has all the previously released remixes for Money Shot, Catch Me, and ZHM, which if you don't have you should most definitely get NOW!

The album features some great and interesting collaborations with Blatta & Inesha, Dirtyphonics, Chali 2na, Alec Empire and many others. There is definitely something for everyone in Mustard Pimp's latest production, some might even go as far as categorizing some tracks as dubstep or hip hop, all of course imbued with the duo's own sound and aggressiveness. There is definitely a heavier use of vocals than in their previous productions, which to some might not be ideal. But where 'Wide Eyes' might be a new genre in which the duo is tapping, there are still tracks like 'Radio Techno Allah' that remind me of the first time I heard 'Gold'. Overall, it is great album and if you like Mustard Pimp you will not be disappointed. Enjoy the tracks!

Justice's New LP in Justice's Own Words

Justice's latest LP 'Audio, Video, Disco' has probably been the most anticipated album of the year, and probably the subject of most debate among the french duo's fans. Not surprisingly, to those looking for Cross Pt. 2 the album did not cut it. Nonetheless, it is important to recognize that there is very high quality work and production value behind some of those tracks. I could sit here and argue either side of the argument all night long, but it doesn't really matter. You already listened to the tracks and have made up your own mind. You already know how much you love/hate it, and how stoked/disappointed you are that they took a different approach to production than they did with Cross. Feel like asking Justice why the change? Well, here is what they have to say about it (at least what Xavier has to say, Gaspard seems to quietly agree):

We have already established pretty well who the fuck is Haezer in these pages, so I am going to get straight to the point. We all heard Haezer's banger Monkey back in 2010 (if you haven't take a few and click HERE before proceeding), we know the track is hard to say the least. The good news is that CRUX Records is releasing an EP with remixes by Pelussje, You Killing Me, Doc Trashz, Brian Cox, Shax, and Andy's Ill. In other words it is going to be a sick EP. Thank god people remember what hard electro is supposed to sound like. If you follow what we do here around TCHNCRCY Music we've put up some awesome remixes VNNR's put down in the past. We're talking Oddworld's "Kortelas", Despuis91's "Erothiq", and most importantly, TCHNCRCY favorite, Irish Steph's "Power Pt. 2". Now we come to bring you the newest hit from the boy from Belgium, WHAT? This EP is crazy heavy. The original is hands down my favorite off the release, courteously released by label Lektroluv I might add, but Modek put's his shine on the song in regular fashion while half of Hey Today!, now known as Nickel, almost may have stolen the show with a few more flowing synths and a bit less distortion. Of course if you like the original, you'll still enjoy Dr. Lektroluv's own up tempo take on the track. But you're all big boys and girls. Make up you're own minds. These dudes are heavy hitters and we all know it. Civilization was awesome for me. Audio Video Disco is great as well. People talk about the underwhelming feel you get from the first listen but these songs are built to last. More importantly, they fit pretty much any set. I'm excited for the LP and this is a taste. Tell me you aren't feeling it. Summer closing out and all the producers that have been hidden away in their dark rooms finding that new sound that's going to crush it when the cold winter months hit are about to bust out on to the scene. So I'm here to bring you the first of many great tracks. The S, long friends of TCHNCRCY, just dropped one of the best EP's I've heard in a long time. Welcome to Yuk It Up. I've been waiting to hear some original stuff after their remix of "Prelude" caught my heavy hitters list and landed on repeat. And I'm not trying to mess with you. This new EP is absolute fire. I want to give you a specific time to really listen for in the songs but if you aren't hooked in the first 30 seconds you might as well pack your bags and go home. Personally I love "I Feel You" as my favorite but "Yuk It Up" is more than listenable. It's downright amazing. This is why I'm bringing it to you. The songs hit hard without being pretentious and can definitely get a floor moving. I honestly didn't even look up whether the boys had put up anything after I got the EP because it's just that god damn good. However, as luck would have it they have a preview up for free on soundcloud, just because they're awesome like that. If you don't love the S already, listen. If you do, go buy the EP. Oh and by the way, our friendly killers at Mahtrasher Recorcds are putting out the EP. Never forget who brought you the best. Thank you Andrew. Nero's New LP - Welcome to Reality

I have mixed feelings about posting up this LP. On one hand, Nero is an incredibly gifted pair of sound engineers who know how to spin dubstep into just some of the greatest bass drops that you might just lose your mind. I remember hearing Doctor P, Flux Pavilion, and Nero all drop just these crazy tracks right around when they did "Innocence", and I was like damn, the UK just owns dubstep. But on the other hand, a lot of people really liked it. A lot. And Rusko had the dub scene swelling in the states as more and more kids got into it, ending in what we have today. A rising tide of really awful brostep and wobbles being made fun of because the snyths are just fluctuating wildly over poorly made two-step beats in everybody's attempt at dubstep.

I know it's not really the biggest issue in the world. Bad music will always be around. And it's not fair of me to blame Nero for it, but I kind of do. "Welcome to Reality" is a great album with some of the most annoying tracks snuck in that just kind of leave a bad taste in your mouth. I don't know why. All of their hits are in there: "Innocence", "Promises", "Guilt", "Me and You", and the more recent "New Life". There's also what I'm assuming is Nero's take on "Stress" which isn't bad in the song "Angst", but sounds exactly like you think it would. And overall the rest of the other tracks are great. But when I listen to tracks like "Crush on You", "My Eyes", and "Must Be the Feeling" I feel like I need a shower. It just sounds like manufactured Dub-Trance that I know inspires so much awful music to pop-up. It's not like these songs can't hold their own. They're well made and I can totally understand someone liking them. It's just how many times do you want to hear another giant epic sweep up with some random chick singing some loop to hit into a wobbling bassline. It's just repetitive in the same way people hate Rusko for having the same sounds.

Regardless, you should check out the release and make up your own mind about the situation. If you're missing Nero's hits from your collection then you should pick it up. "Innocence" and "Me and You" remain awe-inspiring tracks and the new "Fugue State" and "Doomsday" absolutely crush. If you have everything Nero already, then maybe check out the tracks I mentioned before you grab it.

The M Machine New Single + HARD Comes to Portland

I'll admit it. For a bit of time I lost faith. After seeing some absolutely garbage shows here in Portland (I'm looking at you Bohemia) I was beginning to think our wondrous city of bridges was losing its touch. But Figure brought it hard and tonight the epic arrival of the HARD tour arrives to rock the Roseland Theater with the likes of Digitalism, GESAFFELSTEIN, and one of my favorite duos, Jack Beats. So if you aren't amped up and ready to go nuts, start preparing.

So in honor of my newly restored belief in our cause, I'd thought I'd hook you all up with the new single from The M Machine, a San Fransisco duo who put out a crazy awesome teaser video I spoke of long ago. I was excited to hear what these boys were bringing to the table and "Trafalgar" does not disappoint. What we have hear is an incredibly well produced track that runs a little long (6:00) but drops into some of the best dark, grinding synths and epically constructed beats that would put a Dada Life song to shame. It doesn't have the hard edge that an Ikki song or Q.G. track would provide, but it's got those long melodies combined with awesome sounds that I miss from when Danger used to drop tracks. It's worth a listen for sure, so check it out below and if you like it, it's free on Facebook. Party on pretty people.

So after an eventful week here in Portland, two of TCHNCRCY's favorite dub producers showed up to absolutely destroy FX in the downtown area of our wonderful city this past Thursday. Honestly I haven't seen a show like that in quite some time. Ajapai came on ripping the airwaves up with the crushers we've all come to know and love. When "Brain" came on, the place nearly lost its mind. And then came Figure. If you haven't heard his release Monsters of Drumstep, do yourself the courtesy of checking it out right now. "Zombies" and "Frankenstein" will knock some sense in you. Both were present in Figure's set along with, get this, an Oasis song. And not just any Oasis track, it was straight up "Wonderwall". A daunting challenge for anyone to cleanly work into a set but goddamn if he didn't pull if off. And that brings me to the purpose of this post. Fucking go see Figure. If you live in Canada you should be stoked because the man himself is playing a Summer tour through the end of August, hitting major cities across the country. Go check out the shows he's got lined up. And while you're marking it down on your calendar's check out this epic track Figure just pieced together with Cas One, a sick MC. Surprisingly melodic while keeping it still grimy.

Q.G. (Quentin Gauthier) put a Soundcloud comment on 99i's new remix for his awesome new song Razor. The comment (see below), read: "Dude FUCK YOU. Are you really from Canada?" It made me laugh really hard at 4am cause it's so fucking true. How does someone from the East Coast of Canada produce such amazing and interesting House music with that full on French Touch sound. I guess having friends like Q.G. and The Phantoms Revenge doesn't hurt. All I know that when the sun is out in the summer the is nothing I would rather listen to than some super chopped up House. What the fuck is a Jelle Boon?

I got two burning question in my mind at 3:00AM, what is a Jelle Boon and how do European youngsters make such good music. Jelle Boon is a crazy talented 16 year old from the Netherlands. Yes, he can't even legally drive or pay income tax but he can drive a bassline better than most double his age and he sure knows how to pay the electrobill :). Fucking incredible, wether it was Telmini destroying dancefloors at 17, then RETZ dropping bombs like Initiate at 16 and then Clouds consisting of two 11 year olds (which I still don't actually believe) or Surkin signing with Institubes at 12... or was it 21, I couldn't tell from the photos (just kidding, love u Surkin). I think we should ban the continent of Europe from producing Electro and House. They are just too fucking good at it, it's unfair.

This duo made up of Rémi Buriez and Jonathan Pennel have inked a few deals primarily with Shax Tracks, the record label owned and run by Vatican producer Shax. And this makes a lot of sense, if you are fans of the Italian/Vatican sound then you NEED to know the Whoppers. Grab their amazing track Esorcista below, if it doesn't remind you of You Killing Me, Shax or The Boomzers in some way, I'd be very confused. This may be old news to most of yall but I finally got around to listening to the Stereoheroes' new EP "Exiles" out on Freakz Me Out Records and it straight crushes. It's particularly epic in regards to the fact that I haven't heard anything like this stuff from these boys since I first got into them. Regardless of that, this EP is chock full of songs that will push people off the ground and something I couldn't just let slip by. All the originals are tight with Nighthawk and Longshot putting it down hard enough to make them my favorite tracks of the whole release. This is not to say that Blatta & Inesha's touch on Nighthawk or Le Castle Vania's remix of Wildchild should be ignored. And that's the best part of this EP: It's all good. So check it out below. They put the whole thing up on soundcloud for preview before you go on over to Beatport to pick it up, which I recommend you do. Dropping these tracks in a set will make people go fucking nuts.

I don't know if it has any connection with the Japanesse anime Versailles No Bara or in english The Rose of Versailles, but the vocals are by Rinko Kikuchi, who I would assume is Japanese. Even though London, Ontario's Deadlights might wear awesome masks, leather jackets and produce devastatingly dirty electro/step, I guarantee there is no pun intended by posting a teaser of their fantastic new remix of King Kornelius' Regicide below Sir Bob Cornelius' new track.
I love Deadlights, they've got an awesome sound that's part dirty electro thrash and part evil dubstep. I got big expectations for this young Canadian duo in the future, sick sound plus fucking awesome masks. Hey, I think their Canada's answer to Bloody Beetroots or at least Cyberpunkers... Drivepilot - Ruthless EP

Drivepilot AKA Nick Edwards recently dropped his third EP, Ruthless, and as expected it is unbelievably massive. I loved the first two Drivepilot EPs (Savages & Fuck Yeah) like children but this third EP is virtually flawless. The title track Ruthless is a chilling electro/step banger that could make any dance-floor go mad, from diehard death electro-thrash lovers to moon-boot rocking candy ravers. Also, the vocals in Ruthless are amazing, fuck its DFA1979 meets "ruthless" Electro/step. Regrets is an absolute must for those who are fans of the bangin' electro/house genre, combining vocal chops hip hop samples and scratches, erie string sections, and bangin electro drops. Devils in Milan is probably my favorite Drivepilot track of all time, you hear the spine tingling piano lead or the bassline and your like, holy shit, new Justice but then the drop comes and you know it can't be anyone but Drivepilot. Halo and GSM are electro magic and definitely shouldn't be missed either.

Angst is the Debut EP from french electro/house hero The Toxic Avenger. This album is fantastic, demonstrating both Toxic Avenger's bangin' side and his more electo/pop/hop collaborations. I love The Toxic Avenger is a legend and highly recommend you grab full LP.
I know Drivepilot shares my love for The Toxic Avenger, as me and Nick both agree that The Toxic Avenger's remix of Bring Me The Horizon's Death Breath is one of the best tracks ever! Also, Drivepilot just dropped an enormous remix of Angst Two. Download it below, Phenomenal!

Nero's Dubstep Symphony

The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra presents Nero's Dubstep Symphony, a one in a lifetime collaboration between the dubstep giant Nero and Composer/Conductor Joe Duddell. This collaboration kicks off Dubstep Week on BBC Radio 1Xtra. It is a very interesting project and I recommend you check it out, after all it is always intriguing to hear what comes out from the collaboration between musicians of such different backgrounds (remember Metallica & the San Francisco Symphony?). Perhaps it is not the heaviest, or the most appealing for classical music fans, but give it a shot it was definitely a well prepared musical arrangement. This past Friday the 13th was a great night in Portland. That is of course, if you decided to spend it at the BRANX. At some point I would have been skeptical of seeing a show I knew would be crowded at the BRANX, however, the newly remodeled and expanded venue was perfect, with new lights and sound systems, and an extra bar. I definitely see myself going back there and I also see more good artists choosing this over other larger venues in Portland. The Magic 8-Ball tour headlining A-TRAK came through PDX that night and it rocked the rose city.The tour is over now and I am sure that everybody raged in every city, but PDX must be a close contender for the top, with people in the dance floor past 3 a.m dancing to an extra long set courtesy of A-Trak.

We got there just in time to catch The Gaslamp Killer's set, which was one of the most energetic performances I have see in the Pacific North West. With two tables, a mic, and an iPad on stage the LA based DJ/Producer gave a performance that got the audience rowdy and ready to push agains the stage all night. Check out some pics taken during his set, this guy has some crazy eyes going some times which go perfectly with his stage persona (that is a compliment in this pages by the way).

Even though it was surprisingly short and some people that went out for a cigarette or back to the bar to get proper refreshments might have missed more than half, we got to see the set and we can truly say that Melisa Young might just have as much energy, if not more than Gaslamp Killer. For the relief of those that missed her performance Kid Sister jumped right back on stage to perform Do! Do! Do! with A-Trak on the tables (Orignal Carte Blanche track), needless to say it was phenomenal.

Finally, it was the time for A-Trak, who opened with one of the BEST remixes I have ever heard, I am talking of course of Boys Noize's Oh! (A-Trak Remix). Of course his playlist included some Duck Sauce as well as his killer Yeah Yeah Yeahs' 'Heads Will Roll' Remix. Obviously throughout his set A-Trak showcased his mixing and scratching skills, which always make for a more interesting DJ set. Like I mentioned earlier the set went over 3 hours, so I can't really give you a detailed playlist, but I can tell you that it was a diverse/engaging/provocative set that had me on my feet the whole night.

We even got to see the Gaslamp Killer get up on stage and DJ next to A-Trak!

Props to Cornerstone Promotions for doing a great job promoting this event and letting us help cover the Portland date of the tour, we hope this opportunity repeats itself! It was definitely a memorable night and we look forward to see more shows like this in Portland.

Flammenwerfer, a.k.a. Ethan Young, is a fresh new producer from LA we highly recommend you check out. He has recently finished his first two original tracks and they are true bangers. It is always nice to hear a new talented artist put out great tracks that reminds us that it is not all about dubstep and that there is a reason why we love labels like Mako Records.

Flammenwerfer is not signed yet, but that is sure to change if he his producing music of this quality. In the mean time, we get to post the 320s and share them with all the music junkies out there.

A-Trak Returns to Portland

Despite its size Portland has seen some of the biggest names in Electro; the Beetroots, MSTRKRFT, Justice, and the list goes on. This Friday the 13th Portlanders will once again be treated to a performance by a heavy weight of electronic music: A-Trak. Everybody in Portland should be excited about this show, which as if it was not enough, will feature Kid Sister and The Gaslamp Killer. Portland has seen A-trak back in 2009, and this Friday he is coming to pretty much the same establishment: The Rotture/ Branx. I am sure Portlanders will make this date of the Magic 8-Ball Tour remarkable.

A 90's turntablism wiz kid, a tour DJ for Kanye, an acclaimed remixer, and recently the mastermind behind the Duck Sauce phenomenon, A-Trak's performance will be nothing short of incredible... not to mentioned that it comes with two huge acts I would pay to go to see individually.

Even though Turbo's 100th might be packed full of big names including Gesaffelstein, #99 should definitely not be glossed over. Conspiracy Pt. 1 is Gesaffelstein's second EP on Turbo and it is so much better than the debut, Variations EP. Variations was interesting but Conspiracy is amazing. Blaster and Touché Records: Cybertron EP

Blaster (a.k.a. Guillaume Cloutouis) is a 22 year old french producer that doesn't hesitate to make his tracks as hard as possible. If you are a fan of Q.G., then these tracks are for you. Blaster's Cybertron EP, released on the very young Touché Records (BvD & Hypethembeats), is a banger to say the least, and not to mention his most polished work to date.

The EP includes two tracks: Cybertron and Chainsaw, with remixes by K.OH!, Dead Cat Bounce and many others (as well as some Transformers samples). Check out my favorite tracks below and definitely buy the EP over HERE.

Boxon Records is Gonna Make Your Ears Bleed

Boxon Records is a French label I've loved for some time now. With a collective of artists including Gooseflesh, Tom Deluxx, Dilemn, Eclier, The Boomzers, Costello and remixers including Toxic Avenger, Les Petits Pilous, Cyberpunkers, Belzebass, Saint Pauli, aUtOdiDakT and many others, it is easy to see why this Bordeaux based label holds a special place in my heart.
However, over the past few months, with a the string of great releases, Boxon Recs has popped up on my radar as one of the most interesting and exciting music label around. Dilemn's Better Worlds LP is at the top of my list for BEST ALBUMS of the year. The Boomzers, Rowentah EP is absolutely stuffed full of bangers and T.Raumschmiere's brand new The Rave is On EP is no different. If you aren't yet acquainted with Boxon or you're just excited to see what the future holds for the label, please check out the following.

Makes Me Bloody is the third compilation album from Boxon Records. They brought it hard with 1 & 2 but 3 is lining up to be an absolute stomper. As I said before, Dilemn's new album Better Worlds is easily the best album to come out so far this year. Ed Banger artists promising new LPs like SebastiAn, Justice and Mr. Oizo will have their work cut out for them if they are hoping to dethrone Dilemn's masterpiece debut LP from top spot at album of the year. The album has elements of Electro, House and Dubstep/Electrostep that come together to to produce 52 minutes of bangin' beats. The album is so diverse it's really hard to describe without going track by track but roughly it sounds like Daft Punk meets Toxic Avenger meets Skrillex with a dash of Mr. Oizo and Phantoms Revenge. Swedish House Mafia's documentary Take One finally came out (previously mentioned here). In celebration I figured I'd share some awesome videos that have been coming out with sick backing tracks. Something about the onset of Spring brings out people wanting to grab a camera and film. And who are we to stop that? Check out the below videos for some sick tracks and some ill videos.

Designer Drugs' new video for their single "Dead Meat". Booze + Tits + Satanism = Awesome.

Nero just made a video for their soon to be released Guilt EP, out on April 24th from MTA Records. The song is sick, grab it when it drops and check out the video while you wait.

I'm a big fan of rap and electro popping together and Netherland crazies Dope D.o.D. just made a tight video for their song "What Happened". Check it out.

Following suit, Zeds Dead put out their Rude Boy EP that I'm a huge fan of with their Canadian buddy and lyricist Omar Linx on Kissy Sell Out's label San City High Records. Grab the EP for sure and check out the video to hear what you're getting.

New artists Metropolis just put out a video teaser for their upcoming EP with previews for their four tracks. It looks sick and sounds fantastic. Can't wait for it to drop.

UPDATE: The Subs - Decontrol OUT NOW

I previously mentioned that The Subs would be dropping their second full-length LP on Lektroluv soon when I was speaking on their epic EP, "The Face of the Planet". Well the album finally dropped two days ago and I got a chance to finally listen to it. The subs are a really unique duo and the album shares their eccentricities to a T. Listening to it, songs like "Hairdo" and "The Fuck Song" reminded me of Tiga, with quirky samples laid over really well constructed beats. I was finding it difficult to put into words how the album comes together. Parts of it are just drawn out repetitive sounds like "Itch" and "The Invisible Man" which put me off. However, others are just hard bangers like the title track "Decontrol" and "Lemonade". Both collaborations with label buddy Highbloo are also epic. "The Hype" just stomps and is close to my favorite track on the whole EP, if "Face of the Planet" wasn't so damn good. Overall, the LP is something I strongly recommend picking up, either from Beatport or iTunes. While not all the tracks will blow your mind, they're all more than enjoyable and the few that shine are must haves.

And because I never like posting without some music, The Subs just put out a Dj Set for Australia's major radio station, Triple J, on Soundcloud which contains several songs off their new album. If you aren't feeling the previews out there, check out the mix to get a feel for what you're getting. You can also go watch TCHNCRCY favorite Fake Blood playing out "Face of the Planet" at Hard Weekend in LA's Club Nokia. Would've killed to see that show.

You might have noticed that we are HUGE fans of S.Y.A.R. (S.Y.A.R. PT. 1 + S.Y.A.R. PT. 2). For good reason, this label which just over a year ago introduce the world to a few relatively unknown Northern Italian producers has expanded incredibly quickly become one of the most influential death and thrash Electro/House records on the planet. Don't believe me, look at their roster of artists (Legends of thrash electro/house right?) and check out a few of their new/upcoming releases below. We LOVE the thrash and death electro sounds coming out of Italy right now. However, this post will feature some of the best sounds on S.Y.A.R. from beyond Lo Stivale (outside of Italy) to expose S.Y.A.R. every expanding empire of BANG.

JUSTROCK is a dude from Ukraine, who I honestly haven't followed very closely in the past. However, today that all changed. I just finished listening to the new teaser for his debut LP, Fuck The Road... It is fucking MASSIVE. This album is easily gonna be in the running for one of the best of the year. The album is scheduled for release on April 18, 2011 on none other than S.Y.A.R., DO NOT MISS THIS ONE FOLKS. Dumme Jungs, a duo from Germany, just released a new EP called "Daylight" on their label Techno Change My Life. At first I didn't know what I thought about the song, considering the video is your typical "everybody is fucked up and partying at our show!" thing. The coffin idea is cool, if not a bit pretentious, and there are some girls making out which is always a plus. Then, for some reason, those lyrics just got into my head and the song just grew on me. It has a heavy bassline and the samples are catchy as hell, so check it out for yourself. It's out on beatport with the club mix which is harder and choppier if that fits your mood. The short mix is my favorite version just because it gets to the point and the lyrics mesh better with the flow of the song. I suggest you check out the club mix below and listen to what it's got to offer before making any decisions. I'm also putting up their original song "Saber Rider" which is free to download and their remix of "Get Down" that may be the best song I've heard from them. "Get Down" is just ridiculously hard and dropped on Disco Trash Music's Under Attack Remix EP Part 1 a few months ago in January. My hope is to hear more stuff like this in the future. I'll be keeping my ears out for new stuff they'll be dropping and you should do the same.

Originally hailing from Perth, Clouds is a Duo now based in Edinburgh who definitely know how to grind out a bassline. Their debut EP Mauful Sir/Liquid contained some of the most heavy and grittiest bass sounds I ever heard since first laying ears on Russian phemon Proxy. Clouds, like thier label mate Proxy, share a love for a devastating sub range bass and Minimal-Maximal Prog House. If you do to check out this post.

Clouds just dropped thier Numbers EP and definitely didn't disappoint. I loved thier debut EP but Numbers is even better. It has everything I love from housey chops to minimal bleeps and banging, terrifying maximal bass. And all these elements are combined to produce phenomenal follow up EP and constantly varied to produce a diverse ever shifting sonic landscape, part beauty and fun and part terror and destruction.

The Numbers EP is scheduled for release on March 29th on Turbo Recordings. Until then I highly recommend you give the EP a listen down below.

My favorite tracks are NUMBERS and BEEN WARNED. But the other two tracks rock as well, SUCKER even slightly reminds me of Proxy's fantastic Shit Your Rack remix.

I'm definitely still nursing a devastating hangover from the mayhem that was this years SXSW. However I'm going to bare the brightness of my computer screen to bring you this final SXSW story.
Last night Dim Mak Records through a SXSW send off party at Republic Live in Austin. The event featured killer sets from the likes of Felix Cartal, Mustard Pimp, Steve Aoki, Peacetreaty and massive surprise guests SKRILLEX AND 12TH PLANET. I really take my hat off to Sonny Moore (Skrillex) and 12th Planet for showing us fans love and playing such and awesome set for absolutely no compensation (they weren't getting paid, 'cause they weren't actually booked). After a long festival, during which both artists played almost every night I don't know how they found the energy to make it out and play till 5AM for no charge at all!!! Thank you guys, you killed it.

Mustard Pimp played a bangin' set, dropping gems like the brand new Money Shot and their remix of Wake Up Call by Steve Aoki and Sidney Samson, featured in the video above. Felix Cartal also fucking killed it, dropping all my favorite new and old tracks, such as Montreal Dreams, featured above. Sorry the sound in the video kinda clips, the filmer got it the best it possibly could be I promise. I don't think I have ever heard such a small club bump it so hard, I felt like someone shot an 50- caliber M-60 next to my head all night when I got out.
Also, in all the above videos you can see your's truly, me, Space Cadet, liquored up and raging. On the Mustard Pimp vid I'm in the bottom right of the screen and Felix Cartal I'm in the bottom left. I am the one doing a lot of crazy double fist pumping and all kinds of weird shit, LOL. You can't really see me in the Skrillex + 12th Planet vid because I'm in the front but I remember vaguely getting my lighter up first, cause I was smoking a cig, so thats me.

Aoki took the stage over from Felix Cartal at 1:40 and played till about 3:20. Despite some mixed feelings I harbor for Aoki live, last night he killed it. During his Lion King vs. Rage Against The Machine outro (LOL), Skrillex and 12th Planet appeared and the crowd went MAD. Skrillex and 12th Planet took turns on the decks and blew everyones mind dropping tons of new and/or unreleased bangers. They played out SXSW till the wee hour of the morning, only finishing this phenomenal set at 5AM.

DFA 1979's 1st Reunion So Massive it Sparks Riot at SXSW

I can't even begin to describe how fucking crazy last night's Undocumented Management party at the Beauty Bar in Austin, TX was in full detail! But here is a shot at a little summary of events.

The night started off super well with superb sets from Felix Cartal, Harvard Bass, Bird Peterson and Run DMT. Then the "secret guest" took the stage, Toronto duo Death From Above 1979. Earlier that day DFA 1979 had announced via Twitter that they would be playing their first gig after an nearly a six years hiatus. Needless to say the crowd inside and outside of the venue where amped for the triumphant return of DFA. The small venue had around 200 people tightly packed into a space parking lot and the alley directly adjacent had upwards of 500.

About 20 minutes into the set the fans in the alley who had been banging on the fence and ripping down bushes desperately trying to get a view of the newly reunited DFA managed to completely tear down the fence. Austin PD on the premisses greeted the fans in the ally with tasers and industrial strength mace to prevent anyone in the alley from sneaking in (See Fence Come Down + Cops Tasers and Mace on Video). The kids in the front who got hit super hard were vomiting and convulsing on the ground with their teary eyes swollen shut from the mace.

There was a short intermission while the fence was tied back up and then the music and the mayhem started once again. Approximately 30 minutes after the fence came down Austin riot police brought four cars to block the alley and marched six horses through in an attempt to disperse the crowd. However, the spectacle only attracted more followers. The swelling crowd throwing insults, cans, cups and bottles at the cops would repeatedly push back to the fence as the horses finished their pass through the ally. Eventually cops on foot started making arrests clubbing and handcuffing fans who had thrown plastic cups or verbally assaulted the officers. After the arrests were made the police dispersed and the party outside continued on till the show eventually ended around 2:30.
All in all I can say this is one of the most memorable shows of my life and will go down in history as the savage return of dance-punk legends Death From Above. Please check out the videos of my favs from last night above and check out almost the entire DFA 1979 reunion set on Youtube.

I also got the chance to speak with JFK, Sebastian Grainger and Al-P (other half of MSTRKRFT) who was in attendance. They are all the nicest friendliest guys on earth and they all nodded at the notion that new DFA 1979 and MSTRKRFT is coming soon, along with a potential DFA 1979 cover of MSTRKRFT's new single Beards Again. Sooooooooo Sick!

Embody, the First Single from SebastiAn's LP

The first single is out and with a video directed by So Me, pretty cool combo right? Take a second to click play on the video below and listen to what Sebastian has to offer the thousands of Ed Banger fans that have been anticipating this moment (all of us, I am sure, with different expectations) for far too long. When I think SebastiAn, I think of that RATM (Killing in the Name) remix that people posted on youtube warning that the gain on it would fuck your speakers up (I know it makes no sense, but it was a beautiful idea). Embody is far from Killing in the Name, far from Ross Ross Ross, far from Walkman and for that matter even far from the idea we got from the preview we posted last week. I am not saying it is a bad track at all, but that the aggressiveness of 2007 SebastiAn was completely absent. This track is definitely a look into SebastiAn's softer side, the track is more melodic, and vocals are more dominant. It is a chill song and of course shows great composition all throughout. Together with Justice's Civilization, this track is a signal of Ed Banger's new proposition for 2011. Let's hope the genius behind grabbing Metallica and RATM and merging it with electro has not left the Ed Banger crew and that they are ready to blow our minds one more time.
Only one track is just not enough to judge a full album and we are still as excited to hear the rest, so keep checking in and we will keep feeding you music.

NEW Justice: Civilization

The Cross is back! After so long we hear some new Justice. This time the track Civilization comes as part of an Adidas campaign. You can check out the track along with the video, directed by no other than Romain Gavras below (and we all know how good these two can be together..ahem Stress). The track will be available through Ed Banger, of course, on April 4th, so don't miss its full length release. I like it, it is Justice, it is chill, it has a great combo of vocals and synths, and is very well put together, lets just hope tracks to come can be more "stressful."

New Justice, new Sebastian, new MSTRKRFT, 2011 could be the new 2007 for electro. I recommend you check in with us often, because we will definitely keep you posted on these upcoming releases and more.

What is it about Gent that just makes the music I fucking love? The Subs have popped up all over this blog working with other great artists but the Belgian trio just dropped a new EP filled to the brim with fucking hammering basslines and foundation-threatening beats. Called "The Face of the Planet", the new release is their first single off their upcoming full length album "Decontrol" coming out at the end of this month on Lektroluv. I'm so down.

Until then the previews are out on soundcloud and down below. The above video has the whole original if you like watching little kids freak out old people. You can also buy the whole EP on Beatport which I recommend because the likes of Gtronic, Clouds, and Tai all grace it's tracklist. I gotta say that this is one of the better EP's I've heard in a while. The original grows on you within two plays after you hear the synths really shine in the second half. And if that isn't heavy enough for you, just check out the newly formed Parametic's filthy, heavy dub remix of the track that is just a wrecking ball of sound and my favorite remix off the EP. Can't wait to hear more of their shit to come. Keep your eyes open for more of their stuff and be ready for The Subs to drop "Decontrol" soon.

I have waited many years since I heard my first 8-bit tracks by Nullsleep and Trash80, to see this so called 8-bit artists collaborate with electro producers or make the transition themselves (No, Huoratron and Crystal Castles DON'T COUNT). Shirobon's (and Richard Wilkins) Obliterate cannot be called a chiptune, nor can it be played straight from the 8-bit soundcard of the old-school gameboy. This track is a banger, hits hard and can fight its way into the hardest of electro playlists. Just hit play and don't think for a second your are about to hear the music for a Megaman game, you are about to hear some hard electro... that is of course with the right dosage of sick 8-bit leads.

Sebastian's Debut LP on Ed Banger: 'Total' (Hey! our 200th Post!)

So upon checking the latest Ed Banger newsletter on my inbox, I realized happily that there is a new date for the release of the anticipated debut album of SebastiAn. Pretty fucking sick right? I can't wait and want to believe that is going to be the best album of the year, but of course only time will tell. The release is schedule for May of this year, so hopefully Ed Banger will make it available for the anticipating masses before too late. Check out the cover on the left and a little more stuff below. So far there is little more info about the title, but we will keep you posted.

Below is a video that has been circulating the web, allegedly it is the track after which the LP is titled, but I cannot confirm it is either the official video or a finished track by SebastiAn. All I can say is that the vid is NSFW and the track is enjoyable to say the least. I would tell you the song is very sick but I don't want to sound like a jackass if it turns out to be a fake. Do You Want Some 8-bit With That?

I think 8-bit music can be the shit, and I think it is very impressive how people can compose on only four channels per Game Boy cartridge and with the most boring interface you can imagine. But there is a reason why 99% of the stuff posted here is not a magical bleep filled track, and that is because we love bass and firmly believe that drums are meant to hit a wide range of frequencies, specially low ones. So far, most 8-bit music that has come my way has been produced by purist who even at times avoid the help of modern software. That, I believe, has kept the genre obscure. Imagine what would come out of a combination of the 8-bit leads and bleepy goodness and electro drums and bass-lines that hit the low ends fully and in a way that 8-bit drums (crashes mainly) simply can't.

The outcome I believe sounds pretty much like this Sabrepulse track, which I HIGHLY recommend.

This EP dropped Febraury first on Dim Mak Records. White Noise/Re Meat is one the Swedish duo's more powerful tracks, it has a solid light bass synth that drives the melody into a great drop leading to steady and incredible distorted bass and good drums, I highly recommend spending a little money on an EP that revolves around such a satisfying track. As you can see from the teaser below, if there is one thing that we can see Dada Life, The Beetroots, and Will Ferrel agree on (at least implicitly) is that sometimes you just have to have more cowbell.

Ed Banger Says: Let the Children Techno

We have all been waiting for the next Ed Banger release, and even though The Rawkers Ep was one of the best of the last year, it is clear that Ed Banger needs to put out yet another amalgam of electro tracks that will bring them back the glory they enjoyed back in 2007.

How come Sebastian's album is not ready? Well, it could be plain laziness, I mean, it was due ages ago. Or perhaps, Pedro Winter, is holding on to Ed Banger's new arsenal of tracks strategically; testing them with the audience and following a Darwinian process, choosing only the best. Only time will tell, but us the fans can't wait for more bangers to dance to; fans constantly digging deeper and deeper online in hopes to find that DJ set on youtube that features an unreleased Ed Banger track no matter if someone recorded it with a shitty camera phone. And that sort of devotion is the result of only the highest of expectations; a fact Ed Banger might be aware of. If anything it is clear that they have set a high bar for others and themselves. Fans want the french legends to be done producing movie scores and soundtracks, and want them behind the turntables.

The real question is whether or not Ed Banger will lead the new wave of electro in 2011-2012. Can a new Sebastian album and hopefully a new Justice album live up the expectations and deliver as much as they did before Ed Banger had become a global phenomenon? We sure hope so.

Anyways, here is the latest Ed Banger compilation to come out February 21 on iTunes. It is mixed by DJ Mehdi and Busy P and features unreleased tracks by Sebastian, Mr. Oizo (who claims to feel like a "castrated Hugh Hefner wearing a Sponge Bob costume" when performing live??), Mehdi, Feadz, Breakbot, Busy P, and many more (sorry no Justice track, or for that matter U.S. dates on the promotional tour). It's been almost a month and I am still buzzin' off seeing Congorock with DJ Falcon, Mr. Oizo, Brodinski, Harvard Bass and Destructo at Hard NYE. Everyone absolutely killed it and it was one of my favorite Hardfests of all time. Congorock, who played super early, was still one of my favorite acts of the night. I recently discovered the very talented vaticano duo You Killing Me. I hardly know anything about them; I don't even know if they are legitimately from Vatican City (Holy See). The producer/DJ Shax also claims to hail from Vatican City. Is this correct? I have a hard time believing that a city of under 1,000 clergymen and Swiss Gaurds has produced so much great electro. I think it is a joke but I don't want to offend, for all I know the Vatican has a banging electro scene. All I know for sure is that I am super down for a massive rave at St. Peter's Basilica (joke, sorry if that is offensive to anyone but admit it, it would be a cool venue. Like Daft Punk at Disneyland on steriods).
Anyways what I do know is that You Killing Me is a very talented thrash electro duo that has some forthcoming releases that I am super stoked about. First up is the Heroes/Hey! EP out February 10th on Kiez Beats Record. Second is the You Killing Me Remixes EP out February 23rd also on Kiez Beats Recs. Have you heard about Quentin Gauthier? If you have, good for you, you know what's coming. If you haven't, you better download and hit play on every single track in this post. I have not much to tell you about this guy, except that he has worked a lot with Dga Fäu Records, an indie label from Toulouse, France. Oh, and also the minor detail that Q.G. makes sick sick sick music. This producer has had shit up on the web for people to grab for over a year, and yes I know it took us this long to let you know, but here it is.
I highly recommend purchasing his (2009) Reign in Blood EP over here(you should be curious enough to listen to this based on the name alone. it does sound just like what you imagine...unless you know zero about metal then I guess this sentence is making no sense). Nick Gross, Betatraxx and Drug Abuse Remix Contest Winners

Nick Gross is a very talented drummer who recently joined the once solo Betatraxx. Funny thing about Nick Gross is that my high school ex-girlfriend introduced his music to me way back in 2006 (when I was in high school as well. I don't bang high school girls anymore, at least intentionally). The reason my 16 year old girlfriend knew this seemingly underground drummer back in 2006 is due to a MTV show called Laguna Beach: The Real OC. Nick's band, Open Air Stereo, featured prominently on this MTV show. Subsequently, "The Real OC" and Open Air Stereo have taken an indefinite hiatus and Nick has gone on to drum for Cali rapper, Thrasher, and work with UK recording artist Lolene. In the last few months however, Nick has gone on to work with LA producer and DJ, Betatraxx. Together they recently released a mixtape which is fucking amazing.
If this amusing anecdote of shitty MTV shows and pop music production has lead you to doubt in any way the previous claim that Nick is a phenomenal drummer, please check out the videos above and the music below. If you can drum as well as Nick, I don't care if you promote yourself through sex tapes with slutty heiresses, you fucking rock. (Shit, now that I think about it that is actually a great way for promoting this blog, a sex tape with Lydia Hearst. I mean our post featuring a picture Monica Bellucci got like 4,000 hits in a day, imagine what that sex tape with a model/heiress would do to increase our fan base.)

LBCK - Start

Ask me last week what I thought about Long Beach City Kids aka LBCK and I would have told you that they are a cheap French Touch rip off. Ask me this week and I will tell you that they are one of the most promising Disco/Electro/House/Funk production duo in the business.

Okay, so that is a bit of an exaggeration, I didn't hate LBCK last week. Actually, I even saw them at Control @ The Avalon this summer and it was great. But since the drop of their single Start along with a few other recent musical revelations, I have fallen head over heals in love with LBCK. LBCK is an LA/LBC duo comprised of Alex Noble and Luigi III who is also known as La Zebra. They describe their sound as "highly versatile, but can be best described as the uncharted realm where disco funk meets crafty synths, epic builds and viciously heavy drums." I second that description, especially the "viciously heavy drums" part. Check out "Start" and a fantastic R.A.T.M. remix below. Also, LBCK is on a bit of a "Euro Adventure" right now, so if you live in the E.U. you wanna check them out (Italians can check out our new Italy events section for info). And finally, for all our Columbian readers, they are visiting Columbia on that tour as well.

Bonus: Speaking of fantastic new SoCal disco house acts, Have you heard of literature? If you have, good job kid! You probably spend way too much time looking at music online (but I do to, so don't stress it). If you haven't heard of Literature you are just like the of us, seriously missing out on something special. Hell, I just heard my first literature track 5 minutes ago and was so impressed that I added this bonus section to the post immediately. Since I have only known who this kid is for 5 minutes all I can tell you is that he is from San Diego, he digs classic novels and he produces fantastic music.

Please check out/download/dance in the street to the funky, choppy disco sounds of Literature IMMEDIATELY. His remix of The Phantom's Revenge track, "A Better Day" comes with my highest recommendation. Check that shit out.

You gotta admit that that shit is pretty cool? I never though that a piano cover of this track could be: #1 so interesting or #2 so beautiful and melodic. Check out the video, it is awesome. Once you have you will probably be one of many who want a studio quality version of this recording so you can Dr. Fankenstein it into a set or remix. Also, we got some new original Skrillex. I wasn't completely on the Scary Monsters EP bandwagon, like seemingly everyone else. Even though it has great moments it sorta felt like it packed every single electronic music genre under the sun into one EP and then tied it all together with dubstep bassline drops. No hate, I just liked some of his earlier stuff more. However, I do love his new track, Cat Rats. I don't know where the name comes from but I do know that it is a fine example of durty, durty Discostep. Not Discostep in the Rusko O.M.G. sense. It's more like if the only two Grammy winning robots in the world decided to make a song with dubstep drops and wobbles, this is what it would sound like. The Owl and The Phoenix

This is a post on some of the most recent tracks from two of our favorite producers: Owl Vision and IKKI.

We have not heard much from Swedish producer Owl Vision in a little while, so I was pretty happy to get notice of this new track released on Kinetika Records(NYC). The following is a remix Johannes made of an Eby le Beatz (Milan) track. Meanwhile in Spain.... IKKI has not been sitting on his ass watching TV. There is an upcoming remix of a track by L.A.S.E.R. called Witchcraft. I am posting the preview below, which despite being short shows us the IKKI we know at the very end, it is sick so check it out.

Ikki has also shared a couple interesting tracks. The first one is a System of a Down remix that shows us the obvious influence metal music has had on his sound (despite this being one of his less heavy remixes).

And finally he did a remix for the soundtrack of an 80s anime series called Saint Seiya, where I think his name comes from; I am pretty sure IKKI is named after the Phoenix character that owned everyone by fucking with their minds, could go in and out of hell, was ripped by age 11, and was always saving his bitch-ass little brother that wore a pink armor. Be ware this track is a bit different, but still pretty sick.

Bazen & Helden, is a DJ/Production duo from The Hague, Netherlands that I have really impressed me with their recent work. They describe their influences as ranging from Deadmau5 to 60s French Chansons and you definitely hear that appreciation for sonic diversity in their music as style ranges from mellow Prog. House to Bangin' Electro. In case you were wondering, Bazen & Helden translated to english means Bosses & Heros. They recently dropped a new original track titled Cause I'm T.N.T., and it delivers yet another solid banger from the duo. I highly recommend you give it a listen, it is sick.
