UPDATE: The Subs - Decontrol OUT NOW

I previously mentioned that The Subs would be dropping their second full-length LP on Lektroluv soon when I was speaking on their epic EP, "The Face of the Planet". Well the album finally dropped two days ago and I got a chance to finally listen to it. The subs are a really unique duo and the album shares their eccentricities to a T. Listening to it, songs like "Hairdo" and "The Fuck Song" reminded me of Tiga, with quirky samples laid over really well constructed beats. I was finding it difficult to put into words how the album comes together. Parts of it are just drawn out repetitive sounds like "Itch" and "The Invisible Man" which put me off. However, others are just hard bangers like the title track "Decontrol" and "Lemonade". Both collaborations with label buddy Highbloo are also epic. "The Hype" just stomps and is close to my favorite track on the whole EP, if "Face of the Planet" wasn't so damn good. Overall, the LP is something I strongly recommend picking up, either from Beatport or iTunes. While not all the tracks will blow your mind, they're all more than enjoyable and the few that shine are must haves.

And because I never like posting without some music, The Subs just put out a Dj Set for Australia's major radio station, Triple J, on Soundcloud which contains several songs off their new album. If you aren't feeling the previews out there, check out the mix to get a feel for what you're getting. You can also go watch TCHNCRCY favorite Fake Blood playing out "Face of the Planet" at Hard Weekend in LA's Club Nokia. Would've killed to see that show.

The Subs - The Face of the Planet

What is it about Gent that just makes the music I fucking love? The Subs have popped up all over this blog working with other great artists but the Belgian trio just dropped a new EP filled to the brim with fucking hammering basslines and foundation-threatening beats. Called "The Face of the Planet", the new release is their first single off their upcoming full length album "Decontrol" coming out at the end of this month on Lektroluv. I'm so down.

Until then the previews are out on soundcloud and down below. The above video has the whole original if you like watching little kids freak out old people. You can also buy the whole EP on Beatport which I recommend because the likes of Gtronic, Clouds, and Tai all grace it's tracklist. I gotta say that this is one of the better EP's I've heard in a while. The original grows on you within two plays after you hear the synths really shine in the second half. And if that isn't heavy enough for you, just check out the newly formed Parametic's filthy, heavy dub remix of the track that is just a wrecking ball of sound and my favorite remix off the EP. Can't wait to hear more of their shit to come. Keep your eyes open for more of their stuff and be ready for The Subs to drop "Decontrol" soon.

Bonus:
Speaking of heavy dub, Figure just dropped a new EP on Beatport about a month ago, "Monsters of Drumstep", that didn't get much play and deserves some attention. My favorite track "Zombies" is chock full of awesome samples and has these wobbles that will fuck with your speakers if not your head. Cop that shit!

Aerotronic's OMGITM Supermix

Okay so good friends of the blog Aerotronic sent us their mix for Oh! My God It's Techno Music, UK based label, artist promoter and overpriced clothing company. Just kidding OMGITM, I mean your clothes are overpriced but still very cool and you should definitely buy some if you have the cash, want to support a tight label and look gangsta on the dancefloor at the same time. Enough about OMGITM though lets talk about the fantastic Belgium trio Aerotronic. They sent us this mix a week or maybe more ago and while the whole world blogged it we slept on it. Don't ask me why, this mix is currently the only CD in my car because it basically my top electro hits list for this and last month plus a bunch of unreleased exclusives all mixed together flawlessly. I definitely suggest you grab the full mix and listen to it all day and all night. If you think you are too cool for that then at least you have to check out Shinichi Osawa and more bangin Belgians, the Subs' new track "Bring Back That Noise" as well as Aerotronic's unreleased remix of Italians, The Boomzers unreleased track "WTF" on Aerotronic's soundcloud or below.

Tracklist:
01. Daft Punk - On/Off

04. Rawfare - Floor Luv (Keatch Remix)
05. Blatta & Inesha - Pet Message (LaTourette Remix)

13. Tom Deluxx - Run (Aerotronic Remix)

18. Rotze - Lowlife (+ Dyebox Remix)
19. Huoratron - Corporate Occult
Bonus- I seriously don't think I can wait for The Boomzers' DEBUT, DEBUT, DEBUT EP "WTF". If Aerotronic's mix is any indication, this EP is going to be seriously dope and with remixes by the likes of Ikki, Haezer, and Underhall as well as the original I can't foresee this being anything less than a MONSTER! In the meanwhile get you can get yourself acquainted with the fabulous Italian duo known as The Boomzers below or by heading over to their souncloud and myspace.

The Oddword: No Machine EP

This is one great release by Crux Records (Shaved Monkeys' Get Rough EP came through them). This was actually released on May 11 and precludes Get Rough, so it is no longer news in the blog universe, but we being the thoughtful people we are wanted to make sure nobody missed this great EP. It sounds to me somewhere between Proxy, Huoratron and Haezer, which should make you want to skip this mini review and press play right about now. Anyways both originals are very sick, so you should take it from there (i like Kortelas about half way through even better). Enough bullshit, here it is and buy it if you like it:

Oh yeah, they are from Belgium check out THE ODDWORD! and do yourself a favor and download this remix of a song that you should already know and love:

Classically Trained Musical Assassins

I really dig on classically tripped out Electro, mainly because the music is just so well put together. That melding of powerful, theatrical music with that down and dirty party song-style grips me and pulls me in. I'm talking about that large cathedral feeling you get from songs like "Have Mercy on Us" off the Bloody Beetroots Romborama and Justice's "Stress". You know that vibe I'm talking about when you listen to DatA's "Blood Theme" or Wolfgang Gartner's "Wolfgang's 5th Symphony"? I love that big, grimey sound. I think a big part of it is the organs and STRINGS used in those songs, which leads me to my big obvious segway into Paris's Something A La Mode, the dj duo that just dropped their first album by the name of SomethingALaMode (yes that's right, no spaces to be found here). I talked about them in a previous post, because of their work with the aforementioned Bloody Beetroots but here's a bit more in depth info. If you don't feel like reading or just don't care skip on down and pick up the tunes.

Made up of Thomas Roussel, a violinist, and Yannick Grandjean, a cellist, these two have been putting it down for a minute. This new album is their first LP release from indie label Yellow Productions, run by Bob Sinclar of "Love Generation" fame and somebody I barely recognize, DJ Yellow. While Bobbo might have ridden Thomas Banglter's coat tails with "Gym Tonic"and DJ Yellow seems to produce less than stellar reggaeton, something must have clicked because they signed these two. Roussel and Grandjean mix up some bad ass tracks in their new album two of which, G-String and Rondoparisiano, have been out for a while chilling on the music blogs and can be picked up here.

That sound I was talking about earlier is something relatively present through their whole album, the strings adding a sense of scale to the music and the classical training the two received shows in the complex song structures. The griminess I loved is lost in this album, however, for a more airy, french house feel similar to Daft Punk, which isn't surprising considering they come from the same relative scene around An-Fer (apparently some big electro club in Paris). What the album feels like to me is a Ratatat's first album. The whole strings thing is intriguing and it's cool, but it seems limiting in a way. Because they feel the need to have strings in every song, the unique sound that makes those strings so interesting begins to get stale. The album has its peaks, for me A Little Bit of Feel Good (a cover of a Jamie Lidell song), 5 AM, and Rondoparisiano, but some of the later tracks wane in style and sound a little samey. The tracks that do stand out though are fantastic and that's the best you can ask right? Not all albums can be Cross. Cop the the LP at Beatport or on iTunes after listening to the tracks here. There's a Valerna remix of 5 AM too, which I think shows what the duo could be if they added some more drive to their tracks toned down on the strings. It's way too ill to pass up so grab that as well and head out the door.

Something A La Mode - G-String (256 kbps)
Something A La Mode - Rondoparisiano (256 kbps)
Something A La Mode - 5 AM (Valerna Remix)

Bonus:
Here are two of the tracks I mentioned plus this Subs and Party Harders song that sounds just Mustard Pimp. Fucking great.

Wolfgang Gartner - Wolfgang's 5th Symphony (320 kbps)
The Bloody Beetroots - Have Mercy On Us (feat. Cècile) (256 kbps)
Party Harders and the Subs - The Pope of Dope (256 kbps) ♥♥♥
