Hooky, the Dub-Step Criminal

Say what you will about Dub-step from around the world but if you want that real massive sound you have to go to it's birthplace, the rainy streets of the United Kingdom. And that is the birthplace of self proclaimed mass murderer with a bassline, Southeast London's very own Hooky. Though his self descriptions may be a little over the top (who doesn't love a little theatrics though?), his beats and basslines aren't even on the charts. His songs have that pant-wetting bass that made me love dub-step in the first place. It's not outrageously original, it doesn't have that fidget hype that Rusko vibes with, but god-damn are the songs filthy. It's nice to see some fundamental dub-step that can still keep you interested and on your toes. I think what separates him out from most of the dub that I come across is his masterful use of samples. Listen to the Gorillaz remix or "When You Wake Up" and you'll see what I mean. They build seamlessly into the song. And definitely check out Jackpot, then go take a shower. You're going to feel dirty.

Hooky - When You Wake Up (320 kbps)
Hooky - Working All Day (320 kbps)
Hooky - Jackpot (320 kbps)
Gorillaz - Rhinestone Eyes (Hooky Dub-Step Remix) (320 kbps)

Bonus:
Speaking of English Dub with seamless sampling, check out this video of English dub artist Bar9's remix of Example's Kickstarts. Directed by Dustin Shepard & Richie Thomassen, the video is just straight brutal. And if you like the track behind it like I did, pick it up along with another great remix by Bar9 of rapper Kyza.

Example - Kickstarts (Bar9 Remix) (192 kbps)
Kyza - Go (Bar9 Remix) (170 kbps)
